English Access Programme

The English Access Microscholarship Program Graduating and Inaugural Ceremony at Prerna Girls School (a school for underprivileged girls) was a unique event as the Access team and students had a number a of reasons to celebrate.

It was a day that marked the end of a two year mentoring program, of a total of 125 students from Prerna Girls School and Vidhyasthali Kannar School, in the learning of the English language and with it a broadening of new horizons which the Access program brings opportunity of.

This day also heralded in a beginning of a new relationship with the American Center as SHEF became a Hub for the English Access Microscholarship Program in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, with SHEF managing a total of 4 sites in Lucknow and Rajasthan.

In the ceremony 200 new students were felicitated too, into the Access program for another 2 year session of mentoring and learning.

 Dr Bradley Horn, Regional English Language Officer (RELO), U.S Embassy, and Ms Rachna Sharma, Manager of English Access Program- India, U.S. Embassy, graced the occasion to congratulate the graduating students and welcome the new batch of students eager to embark on the journey of learning.

Also present on this joyous event was Prof. (Dr) Nishi Pandey, Chief Proctor Lucknow University, who had heard of the program running successfully at SHEF and was pleasantly surprised at the great results the program has brought to the lives of the students.

The highlight of the occasion was the chat show, “Chit Chat over Chai”, organized by the Alumni, graduating and new students of the Access program. The talk show was also a great platform for the students to flaunt their skills of successfully communicating in English. The Alumni and the graduating students of the Access program shared their experiences of events and opportunities the Access program enabled them to partake in. The new students were thoroughly encouraged to make the best of the program.

Prerna Girls bag laurels

Prerna Girls bagged the first prizes in the group dance and drama competitions held at the La Martiniere Girls College on October 16, 2016. The girls also won the third prize in collage making. A total of 100 girls from Prerna Girls School participated in the competition which had nine schools vying for top honours.


77 Prerna Girls chosen as 1090 power angels

77 girls from Prerna Girls School were chosen as the 1090 Women Power Line – Power Angles (Special Police Officers). The programme started welcoming of the chief minister and IG Navneet Sikera briefed the gathering about the progress of women power line and then CM Akhilesh Yadav handed over the identity cards to 25 handpicked power angles. Prerna Girls School’s Preeti was one of them.

CM urged the Power Angles to strongly represent women and also congratulated Sikera for all his good work. He thanked the power angles and added that the government would seek their help in future as well.

When asked about her experience one of Prerna Girls School alumni Moni Kannaujia who has been chosen as a power angel said, “I have tried to help women before also but this makes us extra powerful. I will take every opportunity to help women from now onwards and become a power angel in the true sense.”

Principal of the Prerna Girls School Rakhi Panjwani said, “I am very proud of my girls. They have been involved in women empowerment excises before also but this gives them extra power.”

Another Prerna girl Preeti Verma who received her power angel identity card said, “I feel now I have a special power to help other women. Change has to start from home and reflect in the society later.”

Sunita who is also a Prerna Girls School alumni said, “Whenever I tried to help women in desperate need – one question that always haunted me was who are you to this woman? But now I can say that I am a power angel which gives me the right to help women in need.”

Prerna Girls shine in basketball

Shalu, a basketball player from Prerna Girls School in Gomti Nagar has been selected to represent Uttar Pradesh in the Under-14 National Basketball Tournament being organised by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) in Hyderabad on September 28, 2016. In another development, Sandhya and Shivani who are also students of Prerna Girls School shone in the recently concluded Mandal Vidyalaya Basketball Tournament and have now been selected for the under-19 state level tournament.

Health Camp Organised for Prerna Girls

Prerna Girls School collaborated with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to organise a health camp for its students. The topic of discussion was ‘Balanced Diet’ and the participants were first asked about their food habits. This was followed by a talk on how iron-rich diet is of paramount importance for children especially girls. The dietitians present during the camp also made a presentation on ‘nutrition needs for growing body’ to sensitise students about healthy eating habits.

Study Hall School Campus was ablaze with happy colours of freedom and spirited with spectacular festivity as the Study Hall Educational Foundation family celebrated 70th Independence Day, 15 th August 2016.
Students and Staff from Study Hall School, Prerna Girls School, Dosti School, Centre for Learning and NIOS school, Vidhyasthali school, Digital Study Hall and DIDI’s – A unit of sister’s in Solidarity participated with full zeal and excitement made the celebration grand. All the hearts were filled with pride, respect and the feeling of patriotism.
The flag was hoisted by, Dr.Urvashi Sahni. And seeds of the thought – “Are we really free”, were etched in everyone’s mind.
All the creative minds were at work showcasing their talents in different fields. Students from junior section set up a Maths Mela where they demanded freedom from fear of Maths, whereas the students from Senior section celebrated the freedom of thoughts and expression by taking part in Advertisement Competition. Students from Non Formal Education centres painted their thoughts through flowers and little paper flags while the enthusiastic ones from Dosti danced with dynamism on patriotic songs.
All the teachers, too were dressed up in beautiful tri-coloured attires. Study Hall Educational Foundation celebrated this Independence Day in a different Style spreading Happy Colours of Freedom in everybody’s lives.

7th UP STATE YOUTH BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ( Boys & Girls ) Meerut August 2016

Students from Study Hall School and Prerna Girls School – Sandhya Yadav and Aditi Suryavanshi were awarded certificates of merit for playing and representing Lucknow Team in the 17th Uttar Pradesh State Youth Basketball Championship ( Boys & Girls ) organised by Distt. Basketball Association from 28th July 2016 – 1st August 2016.
